We use garlic more as a flavoring agent than as a food, but earlier generations put much faith in its healing properties. The ancient Chinese, Babylonians, Egyptians, and Greeks used the garlic bulb to cure such diverse disorders as intestinal ailments, worms, gas, skin diseases, respiratory infections, and ulcers. Today we know that garlic contains a powerful bactericide which is particularly effective in aiding diseases of the respiratory system. Modern research has shown it to be very effective in com batting intestinal disorders and garlic advocates are constantly attributing all sorts of cures to its credit. There has been little research to substantiate the rumor that it keeps away vampires and werewolves.
