Hot dogs
1 hot dog (cooked) contains:
152 cal;
6.2 gm protein (complete);
10.9 gm fat;
.8 gm carbohydrate;
51 mg phosphorus.
Almost as necessary to baseball games as third base, hot dogs (or frankfurter or wieners) are solidly entrenched as one of America’s favorite hand held foods. Since they are already pre cooked, frankfurters only need to be heated up. Boiling them or otherwise overcooking them only results in nutritional loss (and tough frankfurters). The nutritional value of frankfurters varies with their ingredients those with an added filler of soy flour, which is a more concentrated source of complete protein than are meats, may have a higher protein content than do all meat frankfurters. If other cereal fillers are used, however, the frankfurters may be lower in protein and higher in carbohydrates. Frankfurters are high in saturated fats, so not the best thing for cholesterol watchers. Like many sausage meats, they often have large amounts of artificial colorings and additives.
