One of the staple foods in many tropical countries, bananas may be eaten plain, in fruit salad or desserts, or over cereal when ripe; as plantains (cooking bananas) they may be cooked while still green. The starch of ripe bananas is mostly in the form of natural sugars, so they may prove helpful against acidosis. They are a good mini cc of extra energy, much more healthful snacks than candy or other refined sweets. Their vitamin content is helpful in maintaining healthy skin and hair and the calcium and magnesium are beneficial for muscles and nerves.
