One of the more versatile berries, blueberries are good fresh, in fruit salads, over cereal, in muffins and desserts and they can easily be frozen by sealing the fresh, unwashed berries in a freezer container. To maintain nutritional value, berries should be washed no more than one half hour before being eaten. Blueberries are rich in manganese, which aids the utilization of many other minerals and vitamins, especially B-1 and E. They provide a good amount of vitamin C, which can aid against infection. Unlike most other berries they seldom cause an allergic reaction.
