One of the family of dried beans, this vegetable is coarse, somewhat indigestable, and tends to produce gas. It is rich in incomplete protein, but also in calories and carbohydrates, so not the best vegetable for those on reducing diets. Chickpeas contain considerable amounts of phosphorus, potassium, sulphur, which is beneficial to hair, skin, and nails, and trace minerals necessary for proper growth.
