Coffee Health Risks
1 cup coffee (black) contains:
3 cal;
5 mg calcium;
9 mg phosphorus;
83 mg potassium;
niacin.
Although too often the only food used to start many an American’s day, coffee has little nutritional value (and has coffee health risks) except for some incidence of niacin. Heavy use of coffee causes a loss of B vitamins, which are needed to maintain energy and control nervousness (coffee nerves?) and may be a factor in retarding the graying of hair. Coffee should be avoided by those with low blood sugar, high blood pressure, heart problems, arthritis, stomach problems, or skin disorders. Decaffeination of coffee cuts down on harmful side effects. The caffeine in coffee can help to alleviate the pain of migraine headaches.
